Canada's First Indigenous Supreme Court Justice

 

Canada finally has its first Indigenous Supreme Court Justice.

Justice Michelle O'Bonsawin started her new job with the top court in Canada on Sept. 1.

A lawyer and Judge with more than 20 years experience in law, Justice O'Bonsawin was an Ontario Superior Court Justice and before that General Counsel for the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group. She also taught Indigenous law at the University of Ottawa. She is fluently bilingual and an Abenaki member of the Odanak First Nation.
