Westman finally has an option for separated parents who would like child support but have not yet started the complicated and expensive court application process.

The Child Support Service has the ability to make an initial child support calculation even without a court file underway. The Service is located in Winnipeg but is available for parents in Westman too. 

The child support decision will be based on income information obtained from one or both parents, depending on the type of child support requested. There are application forms both for minor children but also for children over the age of 18 and still dependent.

The service can recalculate an existing child support order or agreement by adjusting child support based on updated financial information. 

Initial child support decisions and recalculations will be enforceable by the Maintenance Enforcement Program as well.

The forms are available on the Government of Manitoba website and there is no cost to submit an application.
